Quantel diodes on Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Curiosity rover. MSL lifted off on Nov. 26 from Space Launch Complex 41 at nearby Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Curiosity rover lifted off on Nov. 26 from Space Launch Complex 41 at nearby Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
The Curiosity rover boasts 10 science instruments with which to search for evidence that Mars had environments and chemical ingredients favorable for microbial life, as well as a laser to look inside rocks and release their gasses so its spectrometer can analyze and send the data back to Earth.
The QCW Quantel diodes used are qualified for aerospace by NASA, CNES and ESA. A year of tests was needed to guarantee the reliability of those diodes.
